  Waitematā DHB Asian Health Services (AHS) is introducing a pilot project ‘Healthy Mother Healthy Future (HMHF) - Asian Perinatal Wellbeing Project 2022’. This project is supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH) with the goal of supporting the emotional wellbeing of pregnant Asian women, and mothers with infants by improving their accessibility to relevant services and information.

  Your Emotional Wellbeing and Beyond” booklet was developed by the maternity service (WDHB) to support pregnant women and mothers and it was translated with clinical & cultural reviews by Asian Mental Health Service, Asian Patient Support Service and  WATIS (Waitemata Translation & Interpreting service) as well as Asian/ethnic consumer reviews.

  The wonderful booklet is now available in multiple languages - English, Simplified 中文, Traditional 中文, 한국어 , Hindi, Tagalog, Pashtu, Urdu, Japanese, Thai, Arabic, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Burmese

   

• Flu Vaccination 2023 – Mobile Vaccination Service for Ethnic Groups

   

  

   

  This winter, the healthcare sector is expected to face significant pressure as it manages hospitalizations from COVID-19. Additionally, the influenza illness may further strain the health system (Pharmac, 2023).

  Asian Health Services (AHS), Te Whatu Ora, has facilitated several Flu Vaccination events to promote and provide easy access to influenza vaccination in culturally and linguistically diverse Asian and Ethnic communities. Event information flyers have been translated into multiple languages.

• Protect Against Measles

   

  

  Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora presents a series of videos for culturally and linguistically diverse communities (including ethnic, migrants and refugee communities) about the importance of immunising against measles to protect yourself, your family and community.  

  Measles is a disease that is very contagious and spreads easily among people who are not immunised. 

  The online videos are available in a number of languages, including Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Korean and English.

• 2024 Flu vaccination events for the Asian and ethnic community

  

   

  Asian Health Services (AHS) is organising group vaccination events in April 2024, with a particular emphasis on catering to the needs of Asian and other ethnic migrants who have long-term medical conditions, mental health conditions, older people, pregnant women, and former refugees. These populations may face challenges in accessing vaccination services, and AHS aims to address these specific needs through these events.

   

  Additional vaccinations, including COVID-19, MMR, whooping cough, and shingles, will be available with pre-booking.

   

  We would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about these events within your network and newsletter, if applicable.

   

  Together, we can ensure that this vital information reaches those who need it, ahead of the winter season.

  Lunar New Year - The Year of the Snake

   

  The Lunar New Year begins this year on Wednesday, 29 January. The 15-day festival is celebrated annually (dates depend on the sighting of the new moon) and signifies the beginning of the lunar year. It is also known as the Spring Festival and an animal is associated with each new year - this year, it is the snake. Symbolising wisdom and transformation, the snake invites opportunities for personal growth and change. We wish everyone a successful and prosperous Year of the Snake!

  Lunchtime Learning Series - Learning Together / Te Ako Tahi

   

  Asian and Ethnic Health Services (AEHS) are launching a new Lunchtime Learning Series initiative for 2025 - Learning Together / Te Ako Tahi. These monthly webinar-style sessions will begin in March and be available for all Health NZ staff. They are designed to provide valuable insights from cultural perspectives on key topics in healthcare, including:

  • Population health
  • Epidemiology
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Demographics
  • Migrant & former refugee health

• Asian Health Week Seminar (17th - 21st August 2015)

  Our Asian Health Week Seminar from 17th - 21st August 2015 focuses on "The Health of Asian Populations in New Zealand"

  The seminar provides an overview of the research that has been conducted in the area of Asian Health in New Zealand by leading academics and clinical leaders. Speakers will be presenting evidence-based models of care for working with Asian health consumers and their families in a range of settings including inpatient, mental health, child health, disability and health of older people services.

  Asian workforce development is also a key focus over the week including supporting managers, teams and practitioners who work in culturally diverse teams and with culturally diverse populations. The seminars will include panel discussions in a conference style setting.

  Opening Ceremony
  The opening ceremony will be held at 10am on Monday 17th August and will include the official launch of the national roll-out of the eCALD^TM cultural competency courses going national on 28th August 2015. We are also officially launching the new eCALD^TM website www.eCALD.com.
